Motorcycle accidents do not only affect the rider. They affect homes, families, children, income, and the people who depend on that rider every day.
Ride Safe Uganda recently visited a boda boda rider who was involved in a serious accident while riding a CT125 motorcycle. The rider sustained a serious injury on his right thigh and has been unable to work as he continues to recover.
For a boda boda rider, being off the road means more than just resting at home. It means losing daily income, struggling to provide for the family, and facing the emotional weight of not being able to do what once supported the household.
The rider is a husband and father of two. After the accident and surgery, his family has been going through a difficult period, especially because he is no longer able to earn from his motorcycle work as before.

Standing With a Fellow Rider
As part of our community outreach, the Ride Safe Uganda team, together with fellow bikers, visited him at his home to check on his recovery and deliver basic household supplies to support the family during this trying moment.
The visit was not only about giving support. It was also a reminder that riders need to stand together beyond the road. Whether someone rides a boda boda, a commuter motorcycle, an adventure bike, or a superbike, the risks on the road are real, and any rider can be affected.
At Ride Safe Uganda, we believe that road safety is not just about telling people to ride carefully. It is also about showing the real human cost of accidents and encouraging riders to make safer choices every day.

The Human Cost of Motorcycle Accidents
When a rider gets injured, the pain goes beyond the hospital bill. Families may struggle with food, rent, school needs, medical expenses, and daily survival.
This is why responsible riding matters.
A helmet, reflector jacket, proper road discipline, careful overtaking, and defensive riding can reduce the chances of serious injury. No safety habit should be taken lightly, because one mistake on the road can change a family’s life.
For boda boda riders especially, motorcycles are not just transport. They are a source of income. When that source is taken away by an accident, the whole household feels the impact.
A Call to Riders and Road Users
Ride Safe Uganda continues to call upon riders to take road safety seriously. Riding should never be about speed alone. It should be about skill, patience, awareness, and respect for other road users.
We encourage riders to:
- wear proper helmets
- use reflective gear
- avoid reckless overtaking
- ride at safe speeds
- stay alert on busy roads
- maintain their motorcycles
- respect pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and fellow riders
We also call upon the wider community, brands, and well-wishers to support riders who are recovering from accidents. Many of them suffer quietly after losing their ability to work.

Building a Safer Riding Community
The visit to this injured boda boda rider reminded us why Ride Safe Uganda exists. We are here to promote a safer, more responsible, and more caring motorcycle community in Uganda.
Road safety awareness must go beyond online videos. It must touch real lives. It must help riders understand that every decision on the road matters.
To the injured rider and his family, we wish you strength, healing, and full recovery. To every rider on the road, remember: ride safe, think ahead, and protect the life you carry.
